LOCAL ARTIST TO PAINT LARGE CHARCOAL MURAL OF BROWARD COUNTY TEENAGER IN DOWNTOWN HOLLYWOOD.
Gallery 2014 artist Lori Pratico will do the first in a Nationwide series of detailed charcoal portraits, created as large exterior murals, to raise awareness around women's issues. Each mural will depict a female in charcoal and a message in lettering directing the viewer to “notice” . Weather conditions and time will naturally and quickly fade away these images. This representing the intention of the project, which is: “when an individuals talents, intelligence, and character are left unnoticed, they may fade away, disappear, and never be seen or developed into their full potential.” The project will be documented through the photographs of Gallery 2014 owner and photographer Elizabeth Sanjuan and a book will be published at the completion of the project.
The first mural will be of a local teenager Veronica Calderon located at 2033-2041 Harrison Street in Downtown Hollywood. The mural will be started during Hollywood Art Walk, January 17, 2014, and the portrait will be done in charcoal all day on Saturday, January 24, 2015 with an artist reception to be held at Gallery 2014 that evening from 6:30-8:30pm
The public is urged to attend the creation of this mural and attend a free unveiling of the finished piece. Photographs of the finished piece will be available at Gallery 2014.
Lori Pratico and Elizabeth Sanjuan plan on traveling to all 50 states in 3 years to create awareness around various women’s issues including but not limited to, educating, empowering and recognizing the worth and value of girls and women.
