Chandra Johan
Born in 1958, in Langkat, North Sumatra, Indonesia
Studied at MiddleBare Tecnische School, The Netherlands, and at Bandung Institute of Technology (Fine Art and Design). In his portraits and depictions of the human body, Chandra Johan expresses his frustrations and sadness at the inhumanity and anonymity of modern society. Captured in his paintings, sometimes with numbers and letters appearing among the bodies and faces, are feelings of alienation and helplessness so often present in our lives.
Chandra lives in Jakarta. His work has been exhibited in Indonesia, Singapore and the Netherlands.
