Olga Vargas

“Twin Sundown” is the first piece ever created by the artist as part of the “Shredded Views” collection. It was the artist’s way of paying homage to New York’s skyline of the Twin Towers prior to 9-11-2001.

“I wanted for this piece to be full of life and color, reminding us of this New York landmark that has been shredded away form our lives” says Olga. This piece is currently published in the virtual National 911 memorial Artist’s Registry.

Olga was born in Cali, Colombia in 1978; she immigrated to Miami, Florida in 1990 and currently resides in Miramar, FL. Olga gives credit of her artistic endeavors to her mother (also an artist) who was always encouraging crafts and arts upon her and her sister.   Her career has taught her to appreciate the arts, color, scale, and aesthetic composition.

Olga started her first and most recent collection “Shredded Views” in Nov, 2012. The collection is inspired by landscapes, 'cityscapes', and iconic architecture from past and present history, all based on her passion for traveling and appreciation of color. The entire collection is composed of collage using magazine paper that has been shredded first and later applied by the artist on canvas. There is no paint or marker mixed into her collages except for her signature. “There is something about cutting, gluing, and forming a vision with your finger tips that inspires me. It’s like sculpting in a two-dimensional format”, says Olga. She continues to pursue other art forms that involve re-purposing materials (such as magazines) and furniture.
